yikes

I bitch and moan about lack of sunshine for the last 8 1/2 months and now that we've got it, I am trying to avoid the heat. I think that I'm only happy with sunshine when it's also 60 degrees or less.

1) Carrying 70 lbs extra makes heat unpleasant.
2) The medications I'm on make me more sensitive to sunlight.

As if I needed any other reasons to lose weight...

This is the Happy Action Fun Site, so no bitching!

seattle HEAT

It's supposed to be around 90 degrees this weekend. Clear and sunny. Happy action sweaty times!... It's not humid here, so it's not uncomfortable in the same way as Florida or Georgia.

whatever anybody says...

I still wanna save the polar bears!

enviro-sentimentalist

I agree that more honest debate on climate change would be a great thing. Unfortunately, it's taken forever to get most republicans to even acknowledge the fact that global warming is real... And the Bush administration has demonstrated time and again that it is, in fact, anti-science. It's hard to move to the next stage of the conversation when our government and the public at large have only recently begun to acknowledge that global warming is real. So now we can begin the conversation about the severe consequences. But perhaps the moral crusade is a symptom of denial. No one wants to face the fact that we have irreversibly fucked up the environment. Maybe the "green is groovy" movement is just a stage before acceptance. I am an enviro-sentimentalist (I made that up) - I am stuck in the denial stage. I am not yet ready to just shrug my shoulders and accept the idea that the environment is going to shit and there's nothing we can do about it. I want someone to tell me I CAN do something about it. I don't want to move on to the "acceptance" stage. I mean everything beautiful and inspiring in our natural world is disappearing. Seasons? What, no more autumn leaves in New England? No more winter? Blazing hot, practically unbearable temperatures in 3/4 of the country during summer? Mass extinctions of species? Destruction of all our coastlines? I mean, sure we need to plan for these things rationally, but I just can't get past all this... I desperately want to believe that we can fix it, and I hang on every word from people who tell me we can make a difference.

For that, I am stupid.

save the polar bears

I signed up as a Greenpeace member again. Somehow I got talked into being a monthly contributor. It's not that I have any problem with what they do. I believe in their goals but I guess I wonder if there's any hope for saving the polar bear, for instance. I mean, is there any chance we can prevent the icecaps from completely melting?

Maybe my monthly $15 would be better spent going to a local food bank or something else that can actually make a difference.

chris in seattle

So Chris is gonna be here on Saturday. We're gonna do summa the touristy things like going to the Space Needle. It does have an awesome view. I think we'll also go kayaking on Lake Washington. Maybe we'll drive out to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park. Of course, we'll hit some good restaurants and coffee shops... Have some fine-quality Pacific NW beer. Take Zoe to the park... etc.

Happy Action Green Lake

So, the muddy skies parted a little this afternoon (for the first time in at least a week) and there was some blue sky and a little sunshine. Zoe and I went over to Green Lake and walked the loop. This is one of the most popular walking spots in Seattle. Lotsa people. Hot girls jogging in tight athletic-gear! That drives me crazy. Zoe loves being out around all the people and lotsa doggies. Daddy feels a little better because at least I get a decent 3 mile walk in, so I'm a little less of a sloth.

Green Lake is good.

johnny clog

My toilet is clogged 50% of the time. Every time I take a dump, the thing gets all jammed up. A plunger is always at the ready. It's not because my dumps are impressively large (well... sometimes they are). It's the crappy terlet/plumbing.

I have a can of fragrant Oust! spray available at all times.

Feel free to share your own dump stories!

dry-docked

Just dropped a dry docked fudge dragon. The downside (or upside if you enjoy celebrating such things, as I do) is that if the dragon does not submerge upon hitting the bowl, it can be a threat to air-quality. That's what makes dry-docking so ossum.

Hillary

I saw portions of Hillary's concession/endorsement speech. She definitely regained some of my respect. She really kicked ass.

Obama is going to win

That thought makes me happy.
